Re-drawn 34th House District Seat Puts Stow in Spotlight

Stow Sunshine Project to Host District-wide Candidate Forum

After serving three terms as state representative for Ohio’s 34th House District, Casey Weinstein has set his sights on a State Senate bid, which has huge implications for the City of Stow as four candidates vie to replace him.

Weinstein’s district encompasses Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Hudson, Silver Lake and four precincts in northwest Akron.

But, the Ohio Redistricting Commission re-drew the map for 2025-26, and Stow will be the largest voting bloc represented by the 34th House District, which will include Stow, Hudson, Tallmadge, Munroe Falls, Silver Lake, North Hill (Akron) and northwest Akron. The party makeup of the district is 54% Democratic, 45% Republican.

As a result of the redistricting, Stow will figure prominently in how the district is represented in Columbus and, likewise, figures even more prominently in the campaigns of those running for that office.

Three candidates filed to run for the Democratic nomination: Dina Edwards of Munroe Falls; Derrick Hall of Akron; and Nathan Jarosz of Akron. That race will be decided in the March 19 Primary Election, with early voting starting on Feb. 21.

Adam Bozic of Tallmadge is running unopposed as the Republican nominee and won’t factor into the March primary.

See What They Say

To help voters decide who would best represent their party in the November general election, the Stow Sunshine Project has teamed up with several groups to host a district-wide 34th House District Democratic Candidate Forum on Monday, Feb. 12, starting with a meet-and-greet at 6:15 pm and main event at 7 pm.

Attendees will be able to speak with the candidates prior to the forum’s start, gather information and take a yard sign, if desired.

The event will be held at the Acker-Moore Memorial Post at 3733 Fishcreek Road, Stow, which can accommodate more than 200 guests.

District-wide Event

Voters from throughout the district are invited to attend. Co-sponsors of the event include:

  • The Summit County Democratic Party

  • Summit County Progressive Democrats

  • Hudson Democratic Club

  • The Federated Democratic Women of Summit County

  • Stow City Council President Cyle Feldman

Special guest will be Casey Weinstein; moderator will be former Stow City Councilman and the current Democratic candidate for Summit County Council District 3 Dr. David Licate.

Early voting for the March 19 primary begins on Feb. 21 - just 9 days after the Candidate Forum. So this may be your last chance to vet the candidates before the election begins.
